Recent Cole-lingo

It's not every day, you hear a 2 year old say some of these things.  At least, I don't think it is.  Funny little man.

He's been saying these next 2 the past 4 or 5 months.

"Shew, dat was a cwose one."
Interpretation of: Shew, that was a close one.

"Didn't see dat one dumming."
Interpretation of: I didn't see that one coming.

"Oh my doodness!"
Interpretation of: Oh my goodness.
He uses this very appropriately, always very shocked when he says it.  Such as - I whip out a homemade lemon cream pop from the freezer, Cole responds with eyes open a mile wide, "Oh my doodness.  Tank you, Mommy."

These next few deal with excrement.  In a household of a higher ratio of males to female, conversations such as these, are apt to happen.  I apologize, Mother.

On our recent roadtrips, Cole will try anything to get out of his car seat.  I mean, sitting for 4-5 hours stretches is no fun for any age, let alone a super active toddler.  This is how bad it got.

"Mommy, mommy, I poopie.  Change me.  Change my diaper."
This is from the kid that, in the last 8 months or so, has not appreciated any diaper change.  "Appreciated" is a nice way to put it.

"Mommy, I poopie woopie.  Save me, save me, Mommy."
This one just makes me laugh.  It's quite treacherous having dirty pants, I suppose.

Enough for now.  I'm sure I'll think of more later.

Total random bit.  This weather is absolutely ridiculous.  Hot, hot sun.  Then high, high winds.  Thunderstorms.  I'm a little apprehensive to go check on my front porch flower pots.  I heard some crashing.  It's somethin' fee-ierce out there right now.

Ooohh, I just thought of my 12 yard sale signs I put out today.  Wahhhhh.  They're all ruined.  Hoping it clears up for tomorrow.  Maybe the rain will make it a little less hot for our sale tomorrow!  Praying...you pray too, k?  :)

Home Sweet Home

We found our way back home to the big city tonight.  The change of pace in the past two weeks has done me much good- from getting to visit quaint Hobe Sound, to relish in the good ol' country-feelin' ways of North Carolina, to witness the beauty of magnificent creation in the mountains of Tennessee, to lastly, mingling with THE finest friends that Kentucky has to offer.

But, boy have I missed seeing the remarkable skyline of Cincinnati.  When we pulled onto 275, it made me smile, gazing at the tall buildings against the dimming sky.  Multitudes of vehicles and construction zones greeted us.

Truth be told...I am so ecstatic to be home.  Sleeping in my own sheets. :}

We got home about 8:30 tonight, stopped by to eat some Giovanni's pizza with my parents.  Yummo.  Never can get enough of that stuff.  I've got the van all cleaned out.  The stack of mail has been gone through.  The boys have received their baths and are in bed (thanks to my fantastic hubby!).  The second load of laundry is done.  Everything is unpacked and put away, minus some things that need to be in Cole's bedroom.  Checked on my flowers/garden.  Most of my flowers on my front porch do NOT look healthy.  Hoping to give them some extra tlc so they'll make it.  I've gotten my own shower (in my own shower...yay!).  Snug in bed.

Now, that I've put everything away, I'm wondering why, why, why?  We're leaving in 2 more weeks to head back to North Carolina for youth camp.  I should have just kept everything packed, and I would have been ahead in the game.  Oh, weeel.  Packing is part of the fun when going on a trip, eh?!?!  :}

Have so much blogging that I need to get caught up on.  Can't wait!!

Life Is Good Today

Got an early start today.  Always hate getting up early, but am glad I do once I'm awake enough to stop staring, look intelligent, get dressed, and actually, well, WAKE UP!  :}   This, I have done today!  Woohoo!

Blessed, so blessed.  I can't get enough of it.

It is absolutely beautiful outside today.  Sunshine, yet cool.  Ate my steaming oatmeal outside.  Alone.  :}  That's enough to be thankful for right there.  Quietness.

Read some really good devotions.  Just what I needed.   Weird how that happens, eh? :}  A couple of quotes worth dwelling on:
Christians are to make Christ known to the world not by flaunting their spiritual gifts, but rather by demonstrating the sacrificial love of Christ that places others before self and willingly bends low to raise another up.
I must love them, even when I am tired and aching for quiet. I must love them because that’s Christ in me. Learning to love as He loves is no simple task. A thousand opportunities present daily and love becomes a choice to be made.
Good reminders.

Drake slept through the night.  The first time in a long time.  This is what I get to deal with today.  Poor me.

Sleep = Happy Baby & Mommy

I kept him up quite late last night - nursed him and got some baby food in him.  He was so exhausted, he was just rubbing his eyes (not good seeing that he was smearing pears & pineapples in his el pupilos).  THEN, I gave him a bath.  I put him down at 11.  He slept 'til 6.  Thank you, Jesus!  Nursed him and put him back down.

Cole & Drake both woke up finally just a little bit ago.  Both slept past 9 o'clock.  Allowed me that special quietness (yep, I mentioned it again) that's very rare throughout the rest of the day around this joint.

The sweet man I married a long time ago is out pressure washing my Pottery Barn area rug that was stored down in our nast-tay basement.  Apparently, some rodent had crawled all up in there and died.  Left a undesirable, foul odor.  Praying that Pinterest has some remedy for this after the pressure-washing is done.

Off to garden.

Sew Excited To Share This!

Second post in one day.  I am loving this blogging bit.

Those of you who know me know that I do NOT sew.  Well, I didn't USE to. :)  Today, that all changed. And I'm just soo stinkin' excited about it.  Come to think of it...way too excited.  That's ok.  This is my blog.

Now, you pro seamstresses are going to be chuckling and thinking I'm moronic, so you might want to stop reading about riggghhhht...now.

Shall we continue.  I'm in the process of doing a complete makeover on my front porch (another blog soon to follow once it's all complete).  And what better thing to start your sewing career on than a PILLOW?!?!  Right? :)   I know what you're thinking.  Is this girl serious?  Who CAN'T sew a pillow?  Straight lines.  Four of them.  Simple.  Well, I couldn't and now I can.  Oh yah, I'm proud.

Revealing my first attempt at sewing...

I personally L~O~V~E it.  I couldn't stop staring at it after I finished.  I'm aware I'm quite crazy.  :)  I was amazed that I had actually made all of it by myself.  Now, I will say my incredible mother gave me wonderful instruction on what to do and helped out with all of her wisdom.  BUT, I did sew it all by myself.

Would love to hear what you think.  Only if it's encouraging.  :)  I still gotta crank out 4 more of these bad boys!!   Cannot wait to show you the final product!

Randomness of Thursday, June Whatever It Is.

A pure sign of a bad housewife...I'm STILL finding pine needles from Christmas.  Let's count it up.  Yep, 6 months ago.  Oh wait.  I kept up my decorations until February 1st, so only 4 months.  Not too shabby then.  :)

One thing to help out with that bad housecleaning, I have this special little toddler who climbs in the weirdest places to hide or play and helps dust the floor where I can't reach...or have no desire to reach.  His pant-covered knees are tremendous (and free) cleaning aids.   I'm tempted to actually tape some cleaning rags with cleaner on his knees, so when he's playing around in the house, he can be double-dutying it for me.  Great idea, if I shall say so myself.

Today, I cut up one of my hubby's shirt he bought while we were on our honeymoon, 6 1/2 years ago.  Kinda sad.  You can tell I'm one sentimental freako.  But apparently, he is too or he would have gotten rid of it a. long. time. ago.  The Shirt had more holes than a Chinese checker board, so Bass & Co. didn't do too good a job in making a shirt that lasted.  But, he liked it alot, so it stayed in his closet.  Until I found it in the wash process earlier this afternoon.  Perfect rag material.  This does count as a confession, eh?  Now, that I just admitted to committing this odious act, I feel awful.  It's done.  I guess I could keep the rags forever.  Sheewww.  Makes me feel better already.

Off to clean some more.  With those special rags.

The Shopaholic's Dream

I love shopping.  I love saving money.  I love finding fabulous deals.  This past weekend was a dream.  But a dream come true.

Oh, and I also love math.  Geek that I am, I love to find out what percentage I saved while being the frugalista that my hubby calls me.  His actual nickname for me is Frugal McDugal.  It rhymes if you read it correctly.

SOOOO, without further ado, I wanted to share my savings from my recent trips to Kohl's.  Yes, that would be tripS.  We shopped til we dropped.  Literally.  I came out of the last store, Saturday evening, and I just plopped my rear on the sidewalk, waiting for Mr. B and crew to bring the van around.  You are allowed to be lazy after you save this much money, k?

Most things I purchased were 70-90% off retail price.  This is how I saved so much.  They had racks and racks of clearance items this weekend.  If you used your Kohl's credit card*, you saved additional as well.  I also had some coupon rewards that I used.  Gotta love that super cash.  With all of these variables, it calculated to mass savings.  I must be in good favor with Mr. Kohl.  I just received another 30% additional off coupon today in the mail.  Ready to be used for next weekend,  Ha!  Totally kidding!  I hardly ever buy something that is full price.  Unless, I am in absolute love with it...and I can't live without it.  :}  There are too many clearance items that are adorable and in style that I don't feel like I should jump on a purchase if it's going to be half off (or more) in a month or so.

And I don't have a really good picture that shows EVERYTHING that we purchased.  I know.  B.o.r.i.n.g, right?  Sorry.  Use your imagination.  We got a LOT of nice things.

*DISCLAIMER: For Dave Ramsey's sake, since I know's he an avid "Blackmon Five" reader, we do not have nor believe in the whole credit card bit.  Except for those FEW store ones that give you additional percentage off when you pay with them.  If we ever do this, those credit card statements are paid off each month.  Interest is a bad, bad thing, people.

The Last 12 Hours

Wow.  We'll start from least to greatest.  Just in the last 12 hours.

There are poptart crumbs ALL over my house.  From in my bed to on top of the toilet paper in the bathroom.  A nice parent let his child roam the home, leaving deposits everywhere.   A positive note, my child is not starving.

Oh, deposits made me think of something else.  Cole decided to empty 3 of his in random spots throughout the house...2 of which were in our bedroom.  A positive note, my child's bowels are functioning superbly.

We got a call this morning.  Early.  Before anyone in their right mind should even be up and about.  Our car got broken into.  Again.  Makes for the 3rd time.  A positive note, they didn't get anything of value (just of ingeniuity...hubs thought they took his tennis ball/rope thingamajig that he made for Cole yesterday.  What in the world?  That's gonna bring in the cash for drugs.).

Last night, something quite disturbing on the internet was shown to me.  Talk of the human barcode.  In more progressive ways that I have ever read about.  I'm sorry, but things of this nature always get me a wee stirred up.  I know I shouldn't worry about the end times.  BUT, I'm now a wife, a mother.  I have a family.  And my mind automatically goes to the worst things imaginable.  My babies being hurt, my husband being taken from me.  Unable to protect them, keep the hurt from them.  A positive note, this means we are that much closer to the return of our Lord and Saviour.  Often I just want to be taken (with my family) to heaven.  Away from this horrid, sin-filled earth.  It won't be long, now.

Late last night, I found out that my baby Honda was lended to someone.  They wrecked my car.  The car that I bought, off the lot, when I was 18.  Brand spankin' new.  Yes, the car is almost 11 years old.  But, it was "my precious."  Anyhoo, a positive note, ummm, ummmmmm, ummmmmmmm.   Still trying to think of one.

I wasn't going to go to church this morning.  I am in a bad mood.  But listening to my 6 month old babble happily and slobber drooly raspberries all over...and listening to my 2 1/2 year old sing repetitively (and yes, I mean over and over, and over, and over, and over) the phrase, "Desus, name above all names, bootiful Saviour..., Emmanuel, Bwessed Recweemer...," it makes me think none of those bad things that have transpired over the past 12 hours are even that significant.  There are much more important things in life.  And I will try and dwell on those as I travel to church with my blessed family.

Happy Sabbath to you all.
